What are Blogs Used For In General - Should You Start One?

It might seem crazy to you that I'm writing about the basics of blogging, but even though my last couple of years doing online marketing I find out that a lot of people especially those over 50 don't really have a clear view of what blogging is used for other than they think someone just likes writing stories. They also don't understand the importance of it when it does come down to having an online business.

I've been trying to get my husband to start writing in a blog for about 5 years now. He's written 2 books and I keep telling him that he'd sell more books if he had an online presence. But all I get is the blank stare and changing of the subject. 😃 Meanwhile, I'm thinking to myself, how can someone have the patience to sit and write 2 entire books and not take 10-15 minutes out of their day to type up a 500-600 word blog!

Blogs are definitely utilized for many things, but often a person uses them to air his or her feelings about a perceived injustice. All in all, this is not a good thing and to be quite frank it's rather immature and very unprofessional. Doing this is likely to get the blogger set up with a big appointment with some big trouble.

People have literally lost their jobs by throwing their employers under the bus because they consider something to be wrong in the workplace. Others have been sued for libel, so it pays to be careful what you write on your blog.

Also, unfortunately, a lot of young people get whisked away while blogging and post indiscrete images of themselves. Then when a potential employer does what they should and find out more about who they might hire, they find it or someone shows it to them and then decide that is not the model employee he or she wants in their department. So he or she decides not to hire a person who actually top-notch qualifications and is more than capable of doing the job, but it would ruin the image of their workplace environment. So, therefore, plain and simple, this is an unwise use of a blog.

However, if you want to learn more stuff about a particular topic and find a blog that deals with the subject, then you could join up and even ask questions in the comments and many times get some really insightful replies.

You also can sign up to get hold of a newsletter, if they have that option (which is smart if they do), or in some cases, they don't do newsletters but rather email you everytime they add a new post. It's the best way for a blogger to keep their visitors coming back.

No one wants a ton of advertisements constantly pushed in their faces. But I do think good bloggers should monetize their sites because they do a lot of work to keep their audience informed. It can get really annoying when you have literally 12 pop-ups and blaring videos playing all at the same time.

I've probably been guilty myself of having too many pop-ups, but I'm still a work in progress. 😊

So as we just discussed - Blogs also can be used to make cash and there is a right way and a wrong way to go about it. Some people have performed so well at this they find that it's the best source of income online for them. Blogs can further more be used to rent space for individuals to advertise their personal banners or to even do a complete review of a product.

Several years back I had a friend online who had a parenting blog site for Moms. She had not even been talking about advertising and didn't use google ads or anything. However, someone offered her $1000 dollars to put a banner for their product at the top of her page for 1 week. This was at least 15 or 20 years ago. She thought it was a scam of some sort at first... but it wasn't. It turned out to be a store that specialized in baby items. Somehow at the time, they knew the popularity of her site more than she did. There are all kinds of tools and websites today to see how well a site is doing - but I'm not entirely sure what all they had back then.

Nowadays there are people that outsource their blogging just to monetize it and make a lot more money in the long run from the monetization than they ever pay anyone to write their posts.

On the other hand, there are people that make a lot of money that do the writing, depending on who they write for. There have been 6 figure earners that do nothing more than some good writing for other people.

Fiverr is one of the best places to start. Whether you want to hire a writer or you want to write for others. Also, users can sign up to Fiverr and get a lot of things done at an unbeatable starting price of $5! They have everything from Graphics & Design, Writing, Translation, Business, Tech, Video Creation and much more!

Blogs that allow others to post comments, questions or sometimes friendly debates are pretty popular. Those that allow others to post comments have become more popular than the ones that don’t.

If you want to interact with others for any purpose, then you can do it through blogging. Politicians have used blogs to generate a feeling of closeness with their fans and a lot of times to even undermine the opposition. One thing that should always be remembered is that the things you write on your blog can easily come back to sting you, as the contents of a blog can be used in court.

Just because you delete something doesn't mean that someone hasn't already taken a screenshot or a photo. I took screenshots of someone that was harassing me on facebook at one point. Even though there are no longer problems between us I will still keep them. Not because I'm vindictive, but because I figure if she can do it once, and not really see a problem with what she did, then she could definitely do it again.

I will be adding to this series on blogging to get more deeply into the subject, so stay tuned!

Link Partner Strategy to Leverage Your Marketing Results

The name of the game with Internet Marketing is productivity.
Productivity means reaching the greatest number of targeted
prospects with the least effort and expense to generate the most
sales.

The key to productivity is leverage: expanding your marketing
activity with resources and systems that run without your direct
effort or excessive involvement.

Developing a Link Partner strategy is one recommended way to
leverage your efforts and increase your productivity, although
there are numerous additional ways to apply leverage to your
Internet business efforts. These may include:

- Advertising in ezines, online forums, websites and other
sources

- Participation as a member in online business and marketing
forums

- Participation in Social Networking sites

With each of these leveraging systems, it may take some effort
and time to get them set up and to begin establishing your
website presence.

The advantage to any or all of these systems is that once set up,
they will produce results for you with minimal effort and will
continue to do so for extended periods of time.

Link Partners are website owners or webmasters with whom you
exchange your website link. You will place a link to their site
somewhere on your website, and they will place your link
somewhere on their site.

Links can be in text ad form or banner form. Links might be
included in an article, a site review or a blog post. Or they
might be listed in a business services directory. The style or
nature of the link exchange should be agreed upon before the
links are posted to prevent any misunderstandings or
disappointments.

Link Partners may be easy to find, but the real essence of an
effective Link Partner strategy is exchanging links with quality
websites. That is, sites with a respectable PageRank and who are
already attracting the same kind of visitors that you are
targeting for your online business.

There are many good web tools available that can be used to check
the PageRank of a website. You can do an Internet search for page
rank tools.

To find quality sites and to encourage them to want to support
your Link Partner strategy, here are some recommended steps:

1) When surfing the Internet, watch for and bookmark sites that
you believe are suitable for your purpose. You could also do
Internet searches for your keywords, then check out the sites
that rate the highest in the search engine results.

2) Once you identify a suitable Link Partner candidate, write a
complimentary review for the site and post the review on your
website or blog page.

3) Contact the webmaster or owner of the reviewed site, advise
them of the review and give them permission to publish the review
on their site along with a link pointing back to your site as the
review source. As an alternative to publishing the review on
their site, they can simply include a link that points to the
review on your site.

You can apply this Link Partner strategy to any number of
partners you choose, keeping in mind that the more link partners
you have, the more effectively you will be able to leverage your
efforts and expand your reach.

Productivity is the name of the game. Increased sales are the
goal. An effective Link Partner strategy can be the ideal means
to achieve the desired end.

3 Important Tools Needed For Success With Affiliate Marketing

Three Very Important Tools You Need To Try To Get In Order To Succeed As An Affiliate Marketer

These three things might seem like common sense to the veteran affiliate marketer, but most people just starting out don't realize the importance of these things. Especially building a list to build a relationship with your audience.

There are ways to build a list without having to get an autoresponder right off the bat.... which you'll see at the end of this very short article. But let's go over the 3 things...

Affiliate marketing is one the most powerful and easy ways through which you can earn money online.  To succeed in affiliate marketing on the internet, you will need several tools that you can use to build your business.

This article presents these key tools and how they can help you to easily build your affiliate marketing business.

A professionally designed website. A serious affiliate marketer is one who invests in building a website for marketing affiliate programs and products. This is professional and increases the credibility of your business.

Instead of sending traffic to the product owner's sales page, you can direct them through your own website. By doing this, you can include your own personal recommendations of the products on your website, which is helpful to people considering to buy.

You can also collect the names and email address of people who visit the tour of your website and build a list of prospects. Have a reliable hosting company so that your website is running smoothly all the time.

An autoresponder system. This is important because not everyone who visits your website where you market affiliate programs will purchase right away. An autoresponder helps you follow up with these people, and will keep on reminding them about your website and invite them to visit your site.

You can use an e-course or an e-zine with interesting tips that will make your prospects want to visit your website again. By doing this you are increasing the chances of generating a sale from most people who visit your site.

An advert tracking system. If you want to make sales and earn affiliate commissions, you must drive traffic to your website.

This means that you must be constantly advertising your website using different types of campaigns. It is important that you track and assess the effectiveness of the marketing campaigns and advertising tools that you use. This analysis will help you select the most effective campaign and invest more money in it for even better results.

There are thousands of other affiliates who are marketing the same products as you. It is therefore important that you use the tools presented above so that your business is professional and efficient.

The way I've built my targeted list for free was by using these two tools... you don't have to use both - I did, just because there were other options with both of them that I liked... AND as you might be able to see - there's a way to combine the two...

Outsource Writing - Use a Ghostwriter

To outsource writing or to use a ghostwriter, has become quite
a common and profitable practice. People have started
outsourcing their entire blogs and monetizing them to
earn a good extra income.

Although blogging can earn quite a bit of cash, you have to
keep in mind that it takes awhile for google to start indexing
your site, so you have to be patient.

Then there's also the option to outsource all types of books.

If you want to earn some of extra cash, writing a report
or an ebook that gives valuable information about a hobby or
passion others share, or solves a problem some people might have,
is one of the recommended paths for would-be internet marketers.

But what if you do not have time or just cannot write? Maybe you
do not feel confident enough; maybe there is a language barrier
or maybe you just prefer not to. Well, if you fit into any of
these categories, there is an answer and that is to use a
ghostwriter.

A ghostwriter is someone who will write for you, even research
for you if you wish; will write ebooks, articles, blog posts,
press releases or even your family history. Whatever you want
written, there is someone willing to ghostwrite it for you.

When the writing is finished and approved, you own the copyright
to the work just as if you had written it yourself. The writer
gets a guaranteed fee for their effort, but you have the task of
using the work to make money and taking the risk of getting
little or no return, so it seems to be a fair arrangement.

So how do you go about finding a ghostwriter?

Well, you could just Google "ghostwriter wanted" and sift through
all the results, but an easier way to get started is to visit one
of the existing online marketplaces for people wanting such work.
Some of the most common are listed below:

www.fiverr.com Huge variety of services!

www.freelancer.com  Get $20 USD to spend on your first project on Freelancer!

www.elance.com

www.vworker.com

www.guru.com

www.odesk.com

www.scriptlance.com

What you do on these sites is list your proposal and people
looking for work will put in an offer for your job.

The easiest site and least expensive is typically fiverr. That does
NOT mean you'll get low quality work. If you research the sellers
on fiverr, you can find some awesome service providers.

If you are not familiar with hiring in this manner, go to some of
the sites listed above and have a look around, get the feel of
the site, look at some of the proposals and the bids on them.

Start with the search bar at the top of nearly all these sites.
If there is no search field, there will always be two links, one
for those looking to hire workers or contractors and another for
people who want work and list themselves for hire.

If you type in, say "ghost writer, ebook" in the search field, it
should bring up current jobs similar to what you want.

On some sites you may have to register before you can see the
full details but registration is free and you only need to supply
basic information to get started.

Open up some of the jobs that are listed, looking at the
qualifications and experience of those bidding. Notice the price
range in that site for the type of work you want done for
yourself. Keep some notes of what you find on each site, what you
like and dislike. That will make it easier for you to decide
later which one is the best fit for you.

It is up to you, as a hire, to decide how much your budget
allows you to spend. Paying more for an experienced writer with
good feedback should be a good investment, however if your budget
is limited, you may want to select someone with less experience;
they could still do excellent work, but because they do not have
much feedback, may be willing to work for a lower price until
they get established and have a good portfolio.

Expect to pay higher prices on Elance than on oDesk, for example.
There are many workers who have an excellent education living in
countries where work choices are limited bidding for jobs at
prices that may seem very low. A low offer does not necessarily
mean a poor quality job, on the contrary they may produce an
excellent result. It is all about choice; yours and theirs.

Your first task will be to write your proposal. If you have not
already done so, it is a good idea to search for other similar
proposals to see what has been asked for in those ads, such as
job description, skills and experience requirements, time to
completion and whether you want a fixed or an hourly rate. Go to
the Help section too, as you can get some good hints there. You
will need to be clear in your own mind what you want, to be able
to write a good proposal.

Once your ad is ready to list, check with the Help or FAQ to see
what the site requirements for listings are. Many have
instructions that walk you step by step through the whole
process.

When you list, you need to decide how long you want to let your
ad run; a shorter time will usually attract fewer offers but will
allow you to get started more quickly, so it is a bit of a
trade-off.

Some sites will let you invite applicants to bid on your proposal
so if you found any who appealed to you in your research, invite
them to make an offer.

Bid prices can sometimes vary widely; a project on
scriptlance.com at present had bids ranging for $10 with
immediate delivery to $7,000 in ten days, but this seems a bit
unusual and is perhaps an indication that there is a
misunderstanding about what is required. More often the range
will be narrower, so your choice is made more on what you read in
the applicant's offer and in their bio than on price.

Before you make a decision, check out all you can find about the
individual contractors who make an offer. Look at their past
projects and any feedback from it, their experience,
qualifications and areas of interest as well as the bid price.
Sometimes you can see how much they have earned on previous
contracts and that can be very helpful.

Take your time in selecting a candidate. If someone interests you
and you want more information, send them a message to clarify
before you accept the bid.

Once the selection is made, agree on milestones such as when you
want to see the first draft, the final draft and any revisions
completed. Many of the sites listed above use escrow funding,
meaning you pay all or part of the fee in advance into a trust
fund from where the money is paid to the worker as milestones are
reached. oDesk is one site that currently does not require this,
payments are made as work is done unless an agreement is reached
beforehand.

It is essential for successful ghostwriting that you have good
clear communication with your outsourcer. If you can develop a
relationship where there is mutual trust and understanding, the
whole process can be very rewarding for both parties.

Niche Discovery Tactics Gurus Don't Teach But Use Themselves

Every internet marketer knows the importance of discovering good
and profitable niches. Many internet marketing gurus have a very
simplistic way of teaching about niche discovery. The sum total
of some gurus' teaching on this can be summarized as:

1. Choose a topic that you like, have experience or are
interested in.

2. Take the main keyword from this topic and plug it into a
keyword research tool.

3. Look at the search count. If it is about 30,000 per month,
it's a good niche. If it is below 30,000 searches, there is very
little market and therefore it is not a good niche. If it is way
above 30,000 searches, there is probably too much competition and
therefore it is risky to enter this niche market.

That's it. Based on those three steps, you are supposed to find a
niche. What's wrong with such a teaching?

Firstly, there is no research into the competition. No step is
taken to discover how strong a competition you face in that
niche.

Secondly, there is no research into long-tail keywords. Long-tail
keywords are defined as keyword phrases of at least 4 words (the
more words, the better). Every marketer knows the importance of
long-tail keywords. Long-tail keywords can lead you to lucrative
sub-niches.

Thirdly, there is no research into the tendency of the searchers
to buy. It's not only a matter of whether the searchers have
money or not. Some people in a particular niche market may have
money but are not intending to buy anything.

So here's how the gurus really do their niche and keyword
research:

1. Examine your own interests, abilities, knowledge, experiences.
Anything from these may be a potentially good niche to market to.

2. Identify what's hot in the market i.e. what is currently the
most talked-about thing, what's buzzing or new in town. Is this a
potential niche?

3. From the above two steps, identify potential niches. Then run
these potential niches through these 'filters':

a. Are people in this niche ready to buy and not merely
information seekers or looking for freebies? For example, 'how to
score an 'A' in your SAT examination' would probably not be a
very lucrative niche because it would interest only students who
may not have the money to buy anything much.

b. Is there a problem that the people in this niche cannot solve
themselves? Any niche involving technical expertise would nicely
fit into this criteria. For example, 'how to solve Windows Vista
registry problems' would likely be a good niche because very few
people are technologically competent enough to deal with these
problems.

c. Do the people in this niche have an urgent crisis that needs
to be overcome? The more urgent the better. For example, 'how to
stop your teenager's drug habit' is an extremely urgent crisis
that begs for answers.

d. Is there an 'evergreen' need in this niche that is not a just
a fad? 'How to improve your golf swing' is an evergreen need
compared to 'strategies for World of Warcraft' (World of Warcraft
is a PC game). Once the fad for World of Warcraft is over, the
market in this niche disappears.

Obviously, the more 'yes' answers you get to the above questions
the more potentially profitable a niche is.

4. Once you have identified a potentially profitable niche based
on the steps above, it is time to look for some long-tail
keywords. These long-tail keywords will reveal some sub-niches
which you can further profit from. For example, if you type in
'golf swing' into Wordtracker, you would get a whole list of
related searches. Look for keyword phrases with four words or
more. Some of them are 'stack and tilt golf swing', 'bio-mechanics
of golf swing', 'what is the proper weight distribution during
the golf swing' etc.

5. To find out how much competition there is in this niche,
simply type in all the keywords you have into Google's free
keyword analysis tool. This tool will give you the estimated
advertiser competition (which is the same as marketer
competition), average search volume for the previous month and
average monthly search volume. The great thing is that this tool
also gives you synonyms for the keywords which means you get more
keyword suggestions. You identify keywords with as little
competition but as many searches as possible.

The steps above represent a much more complete way of niche
discovery. You will not only find profitable niches but also the
relevant keywords that go with these niches. By doing this you
make a solid start in your niche marketing.
